Anil & Anushka | Destination Hindu Wedding | Tuscany, Italy

Set amongst the beautiful countryside of Lucca, Anil and Anushka's Hindu wedding at the Renaissance Tuscany included five events spanned over three warm and colourful days.

Anil and Anushka can only be described as one of the most easy going and relaxed couples we've had the pleasure to photograph. With numerous little mishaps along the way, they took everything in their stride and had the most amazing weekend celebrating with their loved ones in Italy.

With Anil's family being from South India and Anushka's family from North India, it was great to capture a mix of both cultures included in the celebrations and both families welcoming new traditions. The first event of the weekend was the Saagri, a south Indian tradition which involves showering the bride with petals, took place overlooking the stunning valley views. Sisters of the groom adorn her with floral jewellery, make-up and perfume as their way of welcoming the bride into the family. Following this was the haldi ceremony, which quickly got a little crazy! The couples family and friends apply a paste made from turmeric to the skin in order to bless them ahead of the big day and give them a glowing complexion.

The second event was the choora ceremony, traditionally held the night before the wedding, in which the brides maternal aunt and uncle place bangles on the bride as a gift of blessing and happiness. As the sun set the night before the wedding, the mehndi celebrations came alive. A grand entrance with dhol players, multiple dance performances from family and friends, a big Indian feast, and dancing the night away under the stars.

The morning of the wedding was a hot summers day in Tuscany and the setting could not have been more perfect for the Hindu ceremony. With spectacular views over the valley, Anil arrived in style in a Fiat, surrounded by his favourite people, colourful smoke and a lot of dancing and cheering! Complimenting Anil perfectly Anushka looked breathtaking in her fuchsia and cream bridal lengha.

The final event of the weekend took place in the beautiful ballroom, with incredible floral decor and candles lighting up the room. An amazing cake, hilarious speeches, dancefloor moves and a whole lot of shots
